- Education
- Required: High school diploma, GED or higher level degree if hired after June 10, 2019; successful completion of accredited Surgical Technology training program or five (5) years of additional Surgical Technologist experience in lieu of completion of training program
- Preferred: Graduate of accredited AA/AS degree program
- Licensure/Certification
- Required: Certification as a Surgical Technologist; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Experience
- Required: Seven (7) years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute multi-specialty environment, evidencing independent performance in multiple complex surgical specialty areas, such as (but not limited to) neuro, spine, robotics, orthopedics, general, gyn, urology, vascular, and cardiac
- Preferred: Experience as a Lead Surgical Tech or comparable position

- Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
- Provides direct clinical care (90%) of the workday in a variety of surgical specialties independently.
- Maintains, teaches and models strict aseptic technique according to the policies and procedures of Surgical Services
- Models excellent "situational awareness" and anticipates surgeon's needs; promotes efficient room turnover and maintains patient dignity.
- Models and teaches fastidious attention to counts; helps to enforce the hospital's counts policy.
- Acts as a liaison to the Surgical Technologists at the other surgical locations.
- Acts as a liaison between the OR and Central Sterile Processing.
- Collaborates with the OR Educator to coordinate training, orientation, and precepting of new technologists; assists with developing training modules for new procedures.
- Provides in-service education for other staff members at least once per year.
- Assists in the development of policies, procedures and protocols at the department level.
- Contributes to maximum efficiency of the surgical line up in order to adhere to surgical start times.
- Contributes to cost effectiveness by using judgement when opening and using supplies; assists with developing processes to improve cost containment / decrease waste in room.
- Remains current with new intraoperative techniques and equipment through participation in unit based and continuing education.
- Serves as a role model to new employees and other staff members; coaches team to anticipate resources; acts as a preceptor to new staff and students.
- Partners and communicates with leadership across sites.
- Assists in a year-over-year reduction of lost instruments.
- Develops close communication with specialty surgeons and ensures surgeon satisfaction in collaboration with the service group supervisor.
- Communicates changes required for Physician Preference Cards to Service Line Supervisors.
- Provides leadership for projects related to specialty improvement of a given service line or LEAN initiative annually.
