What are the responsibilities and job description for the CT Tech/X-Ray position at eka healthcare?
CT Tech/X-Ray Tech Job Description
1. Conducting Diagnostic Imaging Procedures:
- CT Scans: Set up and operate CT scanners to produce cross-sectional images of the body (also called CT slices), which help in diagnosing a variety of conditions, such as injuries, cancers, and internal diseases.
- X-Rays: Perform conventional X-ray exams to create images of the bones, lungs, chest, and other internal structures for diagnosis.
- Prepare Patients: Explain procedures to patients, address concerns, and ensure comfort. Assist patients into the appropriate position for scanning, and provide instructions on holding still during the procedure.
- Ensure Proper Positioning: Position patients correctly to ensure that the images produced are clear, accurate, and diagnostic.
2. Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Machine Setup: Ensure the CT scanner or X-ray equipment is correctly calibrated and functioning. Set technical parameters like exposure settings, contrast, and resolution.
- Maintenance: Conduct routine checks to ensure equipment is in working order, report any malfunctions, and assist with minor repairs or adjustments.
- Radiation Safety: Follow strict radiation safety protocols, including shielding, limiting exposure, and monitoring radiation levels to protect both patients and themselves.
3. Patient Care:
- Safety Protocols: Verify patient information, including medical history, allergies, and pregnancy status, to prevent any complications during imaging.
- Comfort: Provide comfort and reassurance to anxious patients, especially when dealing with potentially painful or claustrophobic procedures (common in CT scans).
- Assist with Movement: Help patients who may need assistance in moving or positioning, particularly elderly, injured, or immobilized patients.
4. Image Quality Control and Processing:
- Image Review: Review and analyze images for clarity and quality. Retake images if necessary to ensure accuracy.
- Data Entry: Upload images to a computer system and enter the necessary patient information for the radiologist to review.
- Communicate with Radiologists: Provide clear, concise, and complete images and relevant data to radiologists for interpretation and diagnosis.
5. Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Accurate Records: Maintain detailed records of procedures performed, including patient information, imaging details, and any abnormalities or issues encountered during scans.
- Compliance: Ensure all imaging procedures are documented according to facility protocols and regulatory standards.
- Confidentiality: Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and other relevant privacy regulations.
6. Collaborating with Healthcare Team:
- Communication: Work closely with radiologists, doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to provide essential diagnostic imaging and support patient care.
- Assist in Diagnosis: While the CT or X-ray Tech doesn’t diagnose conditions, their work directly assists physicians in forming diagnoses, guiding treatment, or planning surgery.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program and earning an associate’s degree in radiologic technology, or equivalent.
- Certification: Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and state licensure (where applicable). CT Technologists may need specific additional certification in CT imaging.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in operating diagnostic imaging equipment (CT or X-ray machines), understanding of radiology principles, and familiarity with imaging software.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure precise patient positioning and proper equipment settings to produce clear, accurate diagnostic images.
- Patient Care: Compassionate approach to patient care, with good communication skills to explain procedures and ease patient anxiety.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to assist patients in and out of positions, as well as standing for extended periods of time.
