Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment & Monitoring:
- Perform thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological condition.
- Continuously monitor vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and temperature.
- Identify changes in patient status and report abnormalities to physicians and the healthcare team.
- Care Planning & Implementation:
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Coordinate care with doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Wound Care & Post-Op Care:
- Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and monitoring of surgical sites.
- Provide post-operative care, including pain management, and monitoring for complications like infections or bleeding.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients and families about managing their conditions, medications, and treatments.
- Provide instructions on lifestyle modifications or rehabilitation protocols when necessary.
- Emergency & Critical Care:
- Be prepared to handle medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, or other life-threatening conditions.
- Provide timely intervention as part of a team to stabilize patients in urgent situations.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Accurately document patient assessments, care provided, and changes in condition in the medical record.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
- Work closely with physicians, physical therapists, social workers, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Participate in team rounds, offering insights into patient conditions and progress.
- Patient Advocacy:
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that their needs and preferences are communicated and respected throughout their care.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort by monitoring for potential complications and providing emotional support.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Experience: Experience in medical-surgical nursing or a clinical rotation in med-surg may be required.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be required for some positions.
- Skills: Strong critical thinking, time management, and multitasking skills. Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. Proficiency in medical technology and electronic health records.
