Duties
- Collect and maintain accurate cancer patient data from various sources, including medical records and treatment plans.
- Ensure compliance with state and national cancer registry requirements.
- Abstract relevant clinical information from patient charts and enter it into the cancer registry database.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for reporting purposes.
- Participate in quality assurance activities to verify the accuracy of data entry and reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for internal use and external regulatory agencies.
- Stay updated on changes in cancer registry standards and practices to ensure compliance.
- Provide support for research initiatives related to oncology care as needed.
Qualifications
- A degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for accurate data collection and reporting.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and cancer registry software.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of oncology terminology and treatment protocols is beneficial but not mandatory.
