Description
The Health Promotion Specialist is responsible for providing community engagement, patient recruitment, general health education as well as HIV/STI-related prevention services including HIV/STI Testing. The Health Promotion Specialist works in clinic and community environments to seek individuals in need of prevention services and link them to care. In addition, the Health Promotion Specialist may be tasked with data reporting activities and will serve as a backup on the clinical floor during staff shortages and/or peak times.
Essential Functions
- Provides targeted outreach and recruitment including HIV testing (e.g. venipuncture, Orasure®, Oraquick®)
- Assists these persons by providing support in maintaining safer sex practices to prevent HIV/STI infection or re-infection as well as accessing PrEP and ART services.
- Offering Evidenced Based Interventions (EBIs) in accordance with the program curriculum.
- Provides HIV/STI and general health education (i.e. cardiovascular health, cancer prevention, diabetes prevention).
- Communicates with others (internally and externally) to provide or exchange necessary information.
- Performs quality management/assurance activities.
- Must be highly available and flexible to work some late nights and maintain a flexible schedule.
- Other duties as described by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Preferred BA/BS. Required High School or GED equivalent.
- Preferred Certified Community Health Worker or Certified Medical Assistant.
- Knowledge of HIV/STI, Mental Health/Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) community resources, and housing-related providers as well as services.
- Must be comfortable and culturally competent to work with special populations such as LGBTQI , People Experiencing Homelessness, and/or People Experiencing Behavioral Health Issues or Concerns.
- At least two years of paid experience providing HIV testing services to individuals at high risk for acquiring HIV/STI as well as individuals newly diagnosed with HIV/STI
- Bilingual- English/Spanish is preferred.
- Reliable transportation.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and personal automobile insurance
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Preferred lived experience.
Continuing Education Requirements
CEUs required by Licensure and/or trainings designated by the funding source.
Salary : $50,000 - $65,000
