THE POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Kitchen Assistant and Transporter
is responsible for guaranteeing that the children are served nutritious, good tasting and appealing
meals and snacks. It is the transporter responsibility to prepare these meals and snacks by which
maintain high nutrient levels that are sanity and meet CACFP requirements. It is the transporters
duty to deliver meals to the classrooms ready for family style service and suitable for the
childrens age and development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organize, and supervise the preparation, serving, and storing of food in a preschool environment.
- Receive and prepare pre-cooked food that is delivered to the site by the kitchen transporter in correct portion sizes.
- Take food to individual classrooms in a timely manner, ready to be served as suitable for the childrens age and development.
- Kitchen assistant and transporter will ensure dishes are removed from classrooms when mealtime is over and returned to the central kitchen for washing.
- Wash, sanitize and store dishes, tableware, and kitchen equipment and have them ready for transportation.
- Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments; maintain an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen. This includes dress, appearance, hygiene and habits.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance in workplace.
- Kitchen assistant/transporters will test food before serving to ensure no hot food is below 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Kitchen Assistant and transporter will transport food to centers daily. Hot and cold food must be transported in carriers to keep food at proper temperatures.
- Prep transportation vans with corresponding warmers per site.
- Responsible for notifying supervisor of any upkeep to transportation vans.
- Attend meetings for the purpose of menu planning and to receive information concerning the daily operation.
- Cooperate with and participate in nutrition education activities.
- Kitchen assistant and transporter will maintain the kitchen areas up to date with health standards.
- Assist with the completion of appropriate documentation for the food program administration.
- Prepare snacks in such a way that a minimum of nutrients are lost from foods. Ensure snacks taste and look appealing and there are ample amounts of snacks for children to have as many servings as they need.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance in the workplace.
- Re-stock paper supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Oral and written communication skills. Criminal records clearance is required for this position, prior to interaction with children.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Possess knowledge of the principals and current state of child nutrition and of the eating habits of
the children served in the program. Demonstrates skills in preparing these foods in a nutritious,
good tasting and appealing manner. Experience in child food services preparation and
management desirable. Knowledge of CACFP requirements is also desirable. Knowledge of the
challenges and strengths of low-income and migrant families.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid California Drivers license or California ID.
- Department of Justice/FBI/ Child Abuse Index Clearance prior to hire.
- Megans Law Clearance.
- TB Test & Physical required upon hire
- Current MMR and Tdap Immunizations.
- Current Influenza Immunization or waiver of decline.
- Employee must arrange their own transportation. If using own vehicle in the course of employment, must have proof of current auto insurance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long
periods of time. The employee frequently is required to lift up to 25 lbs., and reach with hands
