REPORTS TO: Principal
Length of Contract: 240 days
Salary: $63,157.89 - $68,261.05 (As well as a Director Stipend of $6,200 and a General $2,000 stipend.)
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Directs and manages the overall program of Band for the El Dorado School District. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
EVALUATION:
Teachers employed by this district will be evaluated through the Teacher Excellence and Support System
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification/License:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Must hold a valid Arkansas Teacher’s License
- Valid Driver’s License
- CDL Required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of the overall operation of the instrumental music program
- Knowledge of state and policies governing band
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Percussion background preferred but not required
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate or acceptable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 Years as Head Band Director or Assistant Band Director required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Planning
- Direct high school instrumental performances, such as concert bands, soloists, and ensembles.
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts.
- Arranging transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Oversee directors at the Junior High and Middle School Campuses
Band Director Job Description
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the band area.
- Support band booster club activities.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Recommend policies to improve the program.
- Team teaching in grades 5-12.
Budget and Inventory
- Ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
- Coordinating fundraising activities and managing funds.
- Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
- Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing band equipment.
Instruction
- Develop and implement plans for the instrumental music programs and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Present subject matter according to Arkansas State Frameworks.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Student Management
- Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the student handbook.
- Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Maintain confidentiality.
