Job Summary
Responsible for providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College.
Essential Functions
Design instructional materials and assist in the selection of textbooks which will meet the needs of the courses taught in the program.
Provide students with course syllabus informing them of course requirements, including specific objectives, means of attaining those objectives, and methods of evaluation by the end of the first week of classes. Modify course syllabus as needed and adhere to approved course syllabi or outline. Allow reasonable opportunity for each student to review and practice the course objectives.
Instruct students on academic habits, non-cognitive skills, and College and Career knowledge. Develop tests, evaluate scores, serve as advisor by mentoring and guiding students transitioning into post-secondary education.
Assess students, maintain records, and provide continuous feedback to students regarding his / her progress. Monitor student assessment scores and attendance.
Incorporate teaching methods which are appropriate to reach students of varying educational, experiential backgrounds and learning styles. Assist students in navigating and understanding the post-secondary educational system.
Submit syllabi or addendums to the Division Office by the end for the first week of class.
Participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibility such as proposing programs, projects and exhibiting leadership in their implementation. Participate in committees in an effective, timely manner. Work with other faculty to accomplish the goals of the department, division, and College. Attend all scheduled department and division activities held during the academic year unless they conflict with a regularly scheduled teaching assignment or activity approved by the Dean / Director or Assistant Vice President.
Post and maintain office hours as per institutional guidelines. Make provisions for students to evaluate instructor and arrange evaluation submission with student to appropriate office.
Assist in the planning and implementation of on-going activities crucial to the department or program, such as registration, building and managing the class schedule, faculty assignments, student recruitment, selection of off-campus instructional / clinical sites, accreditation preparation, needs assessments, advisory committee activities, budgets and other related instructional matters.
Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of grants. Assist in the evaluation and selection of faculty and other department or program staff.
Contribute to the governance of the College through active service on committees and acknowledge and support the College's mission to serve the community. Travel to meet with business contacts and attend meetings.
Participate in faculty orientation sessions, professional development seminars and activities to enhance professional development. Accept the responsibility for professional awareness and growth.
Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
1. Graduate from an accredited Law Enforcement Training Academy.
NOTE : A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Three (3) years of full-time experience as a Commissioned Texas Peace Officer.
3. Must possess an Instructor License or Proficiency Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
4. Must possess a Firearms Instructor License or Firearms Proficiency Certificate issued by TCOLE.
5. Experience teaching in the discipline.
6. Experience / ability to teach at the community college level.
7. Experience / ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.
Special Conditions :
1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and / or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures.
2. This is a full-time temporary position.
3. Based on the needs of the college, you may be required to teach at multiple campuses within any given semester.

Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.
