Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year experience in general construction labor and/or similar maintenance capacity or successful completion of EPE’s Pole Climbing Overview and Assessment.
- Knowledge of construction methods, electrical trades, related equipment and tools, and safety procedures.
- Must pass a Human Performance Evaluation (HPE).
- Valid Driver's License and comply with the Company's Driving Policy; Department of Transportation (DOT) Certification or must obtain certification and pass DOT physical within the introductory period.
- Must sign the Pre-Apprenticeship Agreement and comply with its provisions.
- Must pass pole climbing school within six (6) months from the date of hire.
- Available to work shift, overtime and/or irregular hours.
- Loads and unloads materials and tools onto and out of the line trucks and trailers.
- Carries materials to the job site for the construction and/or maintenance of distribution lines.
- Climbs poles and other structures for the positioning of overhead distribution lines.
- Assists crews with the performance of construction and/or maintenance on distribution lines.
- Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
- The incumbents in this classification are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and temperature changes of extreme cold weather (below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour) and extreme hot heat (temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour); and exposed to load noises, vibration, hazards, electrical current, high places, chemicals, atmospheric conditions, fumes, odors, mists, gases, poor ventilation, oils and other fluids, and poisonous plants and insects. Incumbents may be required to perform job functions at any time of the day or night.
- Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
