Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of a custodian is to be a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our facilities team as a custodian. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our middle school building, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students, staff, and visitors.

Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma/GED (preferred)`
Experience:
- At least one year working in a janitorial position or comparable position preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of the required safety about chemicals and campus safety
- Ability to implement policy and procedures associated facility maintenance processes
- Ability to interpret data and make decisions/recommendations with the information
- Ability to follow assignment duties as directed by the Director of Operations/Assistant Principal of Operations
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on importance to campus health and security
- Availability to work flexible hours as needed
- Willingness to assist on another EPLA if needed
- Demonstrate a passion for and commitment to EPLA’s mission and educational model
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Preference(s):
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Availability to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
- Clean and disinfect classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria and common areas
- Empty trash and recyclables, and replace liners
- Mop, sweep and vacuum floors
- Dust and polish surfaces
- Assist with moving furniture and supplies
- Restock supplies of paper products and soap
- Maintain outside area’s cleanliness and safety
- Check external doors and windows routinely for cracks or damage
- Open facilities for use by the school. When applicable unlock doors, disable alarm system, ensure that the air conditioning/heater turns on, turn on lights, perform a quick safety inspection
- Pick up trash on and around school grounds including athletic fields
- Respond to emergency cleanups of various substances
- Operate, clean and maintain equipment (mops, buckets, autoscrubber, etc)
- Daily laundry duties (towels, mops, etc)
- Perform floor work to include stripping and waxing floors, sealing floors, extracting stains from carpets, etc
- Perform small handyman duties (replace light bulbs, clean inside air filters, paint etc)
- Assist with the cleaning of campus vehicle fleet, if applicable
- Move and rearrange furniture & assist with breakfast/lunch set ups
- Formally check-in weekly with Supervisor(s) regarding supply orders, reporting issues in cleaning or known equipment failures
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned and requested by the Supervisor(s)

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Works with frequent interruptions; maintains emotional control under stress. Lifts heavy objects (i.e. furniture) at times. May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of scholars in danger of causing harm to themselves or others. Conducts other duties as assigned.
