General Description

The purpose of this job is to train Crisis MCOTS (Mobile Crisis Outreach Team) and CIT (Crisis Intervention Teams) personnel in accordance with Emergence Health Network (EHN) standards of care, HHSC (TAC) requirements, and Info Item V. Those standards include an understanding of Trauma Informed Care Concepts especially as it relates to compassion and empathy for every individual that seeks out services from EHN. This includes the continual improvement of services for those who are seeking Crisis services with a strong emphasis on Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities and/or Mental Illness. Must have a good understanding of the dynamics of CIT. Includes the training of personnel in the following areas: Providing case management services including, lethality risk assessment, skills training, symptom management, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation services for youth and/or adults with mental illness, substance use and/or individuals with developmental disabilities.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. This position falls directly under the Chief of Crisis Intervention.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Must be familiar and train on Trauma informed care as it relates to Crisis.
  • Train and oversee all staff assigned to MCOTS, YCOTS, and CIT on the use of the lethality assessment, CANs and ANSAs.
  • Responsible for reviewing all notes and assessments completed by staff for the first year with Crisis and assigned department.
  • Responsible for training on all referral resources within the Agency and in the community. Will review all e-mails that are sent for appropriate referrals
  • Prepare and update CIT training presentations for the CIT Academies held bi-annually
  • Update CIT and Crisis Manuals
  • Be familiar with case laws that relate to encounters with Law Enforcement Officers and the Mentally ill.
  • Must maintain professional relationships with the contracted facilities and hospitals
  • Maintains compliance with all Joint Commission, Texas Health and Human Services, American Association of Suicidology, and CCBHC training requirements relevant to job duties, including but not limited to those dealing with use of restraints and physical holding of individuals receiving services.
  • Be available to present presentations as requested by the community
  • Must be familiar with the responsibilities of the Crisis Hotline
  • Seek trainings and other educational materials to assist with keeping staff up to date with best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in psychology, Social Sciences or related behavioral field, supplemented by one (1) year of direct casework/case management experience; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred: Master's degree is held in, Psychology, Social Sciences or related behavioral field, supplemented by two (2) years of direct casework/case management experience; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, differential pay may be available. License: LPC-Associates, LMSW, LPA, (LPC, LCSW) will also be accepted.

Experience with trauma-informed services; cognitive behavioral therapies, including DBT; and motivational therapies including the use of incentives, preferred

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices (includes multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions), preferred.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
    • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
  • Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
  • Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
  • Traffic; Moving machinery.
  • Electrical shock; Heights.
  • Toxic/caustic chemicals; Explosives; Violence.
  • Other extreme hazards not listed above.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must be able to attend a TCOLE Instructor Training
  • Must be able to be certified by the State as a QMHP-CS (Qualified Mental Health Professional)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background and drug screen.
