Manages new litigation/prelitigation and administrative matters by managing insurance, legal holds, and conducting initial fact discovery. Applies a balanced business and legal focus to proactively identify and manage risks and issues, and propose solutions, as well as a strategic view to facilitate growth and expansion. Apprises, consults and escalates current and potential risks/issues to Vice President, General Counsel.

Education and/or Experience:
Associate degree or equivalent required, BA degree preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience as a paralegal specializing in either corporate contracts or litigation matters required, preferably in retail/hospitality/restaurant industry. In-house paralegal highly desirable.
License/Certifications:
Paralegal certificate from an accredited program required.

The pay range identified is the hourly or salary rate El Pollo Loco expects to pay for the posted position. This range does not include any benefits or bonus opportunities that might be available for the position based on position and eligibility criteria. Individual pay will vary based on a variety of factors including years of experience, industry experience, education, geography, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborates with and provides guidance and assistance to the Legal department on litigation and contract matters. This may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Manages all third-party subpoenas; oversees the compilation and review of responsive documents; ensures compliance with any notice requirements; prepares appropriate cover letters, asserting objections as appropriate; ensures responses are timely.
- Responsible for employee and agency records requests; oversees the compilation of requested documents; assesses for litigation related issues and consults with the Vice President, General Counsel, or the Chief Legal Officer regarding same.
- Drafts, maintains, and manages contracts for all internal clients within a contract management system; educates business partners of the critical terms; monitors for renewal and termination deadlines; communicates with business partners in advance of any renewal or termination deadlines to facilitate a9066 strategic assessment of the business relationship.
- Responsible for attending hearings and settlement conferences as directed by your supervisor.
- Maintain reporting on litigation and prelitigation matters that tracks key metrics, including key facts, case status, settlement posture, settlement amounts, etc.
- Manage relationships with insurance providers about claims, as needed.
- Modify or make recommendations to improve company procedures and processes as appropriate.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Legal function, builds rapport and open and honest working relationships with all levels of employees.
- Corroborate cross functionally on Legal department functions, or other special projects, including with operations and others in restaurants or at the Support Center.
- Other activities, duties or responsibilities that are assigned by your supervisor.
