El Puente seeks a responsible, detail-oriented, and committed Outreach Service Coordinator to join El Puentes Green Light District team. This position reports to the Program Director and will work with the program staff, members, and community. Our mission is to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice, working as a human rights institution in NYC and Puerto Rico with national and international impact. El Puente creates community-led movements of self-determination through a holistic leadership and membership program model, as a high-impact youth and community development organization.
El Puente integrates its activities and community campaigns within its six Youth Leadership Centers, and its nationally recognized public high school, the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice. Organizing in North Brooklyn, Puerto Rico, and beyond, El Puente remains at the forefront of community & youth development, and as such, initiates /impacts social policy locally and nationally.
As a staff member of El Puente, the Community Outreach and Service Coordinator is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization.
Position Summary:
The Community Outreach and Services Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring that newly arrived families in Williamsburg and Bushwick are informed about and connected to El Puentes comprehensive support services. These include legal screenings, service referrals, ESL classes, and resource fairs. The Coordinator will engage in direct outreach, build relationships with families, and help them navigate resources to address critical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Outreach and Community Engagement
- Conduct in-person outreach at 10 shelters across Community Districts 34 and 37, distributing flyers and information about El Puentes services, fairs, and clinics.
- Maintain phone and text communication with a network of 200 recently arrived families via WhatsApp, both individually and through group messages.
- Engage with 150 students enrolled in 3 ESL classes at El Puentes Beacon program at MS50 Community School to share information on available services and referrals.
Legal Clinics and Individualized Legal Support
- Organize 2 legal clinics annually, focusing on high-priority topics such as work permits, Temporary Protected Status, and other immigration-related concerns.
- Educate and screen 200 individuals/families for eligibility in various immigration statuses and support options.
- Provide individualized legal navigation and application filing assistance for 50 individuals/families, including fee waiver requests, application mailing, and use of the organizational address as needed.
Resource Fairs and Service Referrals
- Plan and execute 2 annual resource fairs, mobilizing 30 community-based healthcare providers, workforce development organizations, city agencies, and elected offices.
- Facilitate access for 200 individuals/families to medical referrals, public benefits enrollment, housing and shelter support, school enrollment, and workforce training opportunities in OSHA, health aide, and food-packing industries.
Qualifications
- Bilingual Requirement: Advanced fluency in English and Spanish or French (additional languages a plus).
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to engage empathetically and effectively with diverse populations.
- Experience conducting community outreach and providing social services in immigrant communities, particularly Latina/o/e/x populations.
- Proficiency with technology, including WhatsApp, online call systems, and basic database management.
- High energy, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset.
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and culturally competent service delivery.
- Willingness to travel locally within Brooklyn for in-person outreach and events.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Location: This is a part-time in-person position based in Brooklyn, NY.

Salary and Benefits:
$26.37 an hour/17.5 hours per week
