INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE III/BILINGUAL
DEFINITION
Under supervision, to assist teachers by performing a variety of teacher-directed classroom duties; to serve as a substitute teacher in team teaching situations while under direct supervision; must speak, read, or write Spanish in working with students or dealing with parents; and do related work as required.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with individuals, small groups, or the class in presentation of instructional materials in all required academic and artistic areas as determined by the teacher; records objective personal student data in cumulative file and maintains a folder of representative work for each child; develops reading bibliographies and does limited research for instructional materials as requested by teachers; manages bulletin boards, instructional exhibits; reads and tells stories to children; supervises cafeteria, unloading of buses, study periods, physical education, and games; corrects workbooks, papers, and tests; prepares general data on grade reports and enters teacher’s grades on report cards; serves as a substitute teacher in team teaching situations under the direct supervision of the team chairman.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Culture and background of community; general needs and behavior of children; good English usage and spelling and a particular subject matter area as a foreign language, mathematics, social science, or science.
Ability to:
Speak, read, and write Spanish is required; understanding and anticipate the particular needs or procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties; establish and maintain effective working relationships with adults and children; relate to and understand the Mexican-American culture; and follow oral and written instructions.
Education:
Persons with the required experience are considered to meet the educational requirements.
Experience:
One year experience working with children in an instructional setting either inside or outside the El Rancho Unified School District.
