The primary goal of the El Rio Health
Fitness Instructor is to support El Rio’s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions. \nEssential Job Functions : \n\nCompletes all fitness training tasks, duties, and assignments supporting departmental operations and objectives within established time frames; meeting established rates of performance for the quality and quantity of work for the position; demonstrating a level of quality, efficiency, and accuracy in the employee’s job performance that ensures the highest standards of excellence.\nProvides and leads exercise / fitness sessions in one or more of the assigned fitness areas, such as : low impact aerobics, stretching / flexibility, yoga, general fitness, Zumba, and / or specialty training.\n\nAdvises participants on program and class procedures and policies.\nConducts induction classes for all new participants and users.\nProvides fitness training service, such as : screening of participants, fitness assessments, prescribing lifestyle changes, dietary considerations and health or fitness development plans.\n\nProvides participants with information and resources regarding nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues.\n\n\nMaintains the integrity of group fitness classes, by ensuring that participants are properly registered for classes.\nEducates participants on proper form, technique, anatomy, contraindications, and modifications of fitness training.\n\nPlans routines, chooses appropriate music, and chooses different movements for each set of muscles, depending upon participant’s capabilities and limitations.\nObserves participants and informs them of corrective measures necessary for skill improvement.\nOffers alternatives to participants during classes to accommodate different levels of participant fitness.\nInstructs participants in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from fitness routines.\nTeaches proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion.\nPrepares and presents wellness educational demonstrations and lectures.\n\n\nTracks the progress of participants and maintains participant files as appropriate.\nSets up and monitors class equipment and ensures its return in serviceable condition; ensures that fitness training is conducted in a safe and healthy environment.\nEnsures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required.\n\n\nAssists participants with questions; maintains a positive exercise / fitness experience for all class participants.\nConsistently delivers excellent customer service, providing a professional, efficient, and cheerful demeanor at all times.\nEnsures that training expenses are maintained within assigned budgetary allocations, supporting the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment by limiting waste of all organizational supplies and resources.\nMaintains a proficient level of technical knowledge by attending ongoing fitness workshops and ongoing training to maintain fitness instructional certification.\n\n\nMaintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.\nDemonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.\n\n \nMinimum Education and Experience : \n\nHigh School Diploma or G. E. D. \nA minimum of four (4) years’ experience instructing group fitness classes; to include a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching fitness classes for special populations. \n\n \nIf applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.\n \nRequired Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations : \n\nCurrent certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers. \nLevel I fingerprint clearance card : current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.\nA nationally recognized fitness certification from an approved and recognized agency or organization, such as : American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), YogaFit, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or American Council on Exercise (ACE).\n\n\nEmployees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.\n\n \nPreferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities : \n\nBilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages \nExperience working as a personal trainer.\nPersonal Trainer Certificate.\n\nEl Rio Health is a diverse and inclusive organization.
