Pay Range : $28.30 - $ 38.91 Depending on Experience
JOB PURPOSE : The Workforce Outreach and Retention Coordinator is the primary point of contact and provides critical support to all eligible candidates for El Rio experiences such as volunteering, externships, and internships, which includes developing and maintaining a seamless workflow for each candidate onboarding with El Rio Health.
Essential Job Functions :
- Develops the recruitment and retention program for volunteers, externs, and internal professional learners at El Rio Health.
- Develops and maintains educational partnerships for El Rio Health and SAAHEC.
- Prepares a screening and onboarding processes for all potential volunteers, externs, and internal professional learners at El Rio Health.
- Creates a process for all offboarding professional learners in collaboration with Workforce Development and Talent Acquisitions.
- Submits data entry of participants into SAAHEC digital platforms for grant reporting.
- Updates Volunteering and Professional Learners
- Regularly meets and provides assistance to the Southern Arizona Area Health Education Centers (SAAHEC) director and team to help meet SAAHEC program objectives.
- Provides an environment that is safe and free from hazards; immediately addresses safety issues or potential hazards, ensures workstations are ergonomically correct;
provides staff with the Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance.
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
- Consistently exhibits excellent customer service in communicating with potential volunteers, externs, and interns and community organizations.
- Provides follow up within a timely time frame to any queries regarding volunteering, extern, or internship opportunities at El Rio Health.
- Coordinates with IT and Marketing to make consistent updates to the El Rio website on information and opportunities related to the volunteer, externships, and internships program.
- Attends community outreach events for volunteers, externs, and interns’ recruitment.
- Coordinates all efforts of onboarding and processing volunteers, externs, and interns with SAAHEC, Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development.
- Will periodically evaluate all volunteers, also maintains a volunteer database.
- Establishes a coordinated effort with Talent Acquisition and workforce development to continue to mine the established relationship with the volunteers, externs, and interns when onboarding and exiting of these positions for future recruitment.
- Provides orientation to El Rio for all new volunteers, externs, and interns and schedules them for the appropriate portions of the El Rio New Employee Orientation and department specific training.
- Documents all volunteers, externs, and internships orientation and any education provided.
- Collects and tracks volunteers, externs, and intern’s hours that are logged and assists with scheduling as needed.

demonstrates sensitivity, acknowledges varied beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and customs, and encourages communication with and appreciation of all forms of diversity.
- Communicates regularly with community individuals and organizations regarding volunteer, externships, and internships opportunities at El Rio Health.
- Provides an annual summary of all volunteers with a translation of dollars provided to the organization.
- Continually works with the community and El Rio employees to identify areas in which volunteers can assist with program quality and effectiveness of patient and / or employee service.
- Continually works with the El Rio leadership to identify opportunities for externs and interns.
- Identifies methods by which to grow the volunteer program along with extern and internship opportunities on a consistent basis.
- Complies will all El Rio Health facility policies and procedures including but not limited to those addressing HIPAA and Compliance.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
Minimum Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years’ progressive experience in Human Resources or in a related role such as workforce development, organizational training, volunteer coordination or facilitating externship / internship programs.
If applicable, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations :
- Level I fingerprint clearance card : current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.
- Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday.
If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities :
- Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years’ progressive experience in Human Resources or in a related role such as workforce development, organizational training, community outreach, volunteer coordination or facilitating externship / internship programs.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages.
