What are the responsibilities and job description for the Checker position at El Super?
JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the Front End Manager, the Cashier is responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service as per company standards, processing sales quickly, accurately and efficiently, performing cash register operations and safeguarding company assets. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend, stand and stoop for prolonged periods of times.
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
The Cashier will verify funds in their drawer prior to opening their stand. They will then begin their shift by commencing customer orders and scanning items for purchase. Collects cash, check or charge as payment from customer and makes change if necessary. May weigh items, collect coupons or food cards, as necessary.
At the conclusion of the shift the Cashier will close out their register. Throughout the shift the Cashier is required to maintain the cleanliness of their work station.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Verifies funds in assigned cash drawer prior to opening stand.
Completes customer check-out in a friendly manner.
Reports any discrepancies (incorrect price, spoiled product, etc.) to manager in charge.
Memorizes all product codes.
Keeps work area neat and clean.
Closes out register at end of work shift.
Follows all State and City laws, i.e. selling beer, tobacco, etc., to legal-age customers only.
Follows all safety regulations.
Ensures no product leaves the store without being registered.
Ensures all ‘El Super’ employees stand in line, as regular customers do.
When opening a new register, assists waiting customers next in turn
Ask persons-in-charge for job assignment if business is slow.
Clean check stand.
Stock check stand.
May face shelves.
May retrieve shopping carts left outdoors by customers.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/LICENSE REQUIRED:
Experience
Must have a minimum of six months experience as a Cashier in a retail environment.
Preferred Field of Expertise
· Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
· Demonstrated prior customer service skills, or related experience.
· Ability to interact with customers and coworkers.
· Ability to understand and follow directions.
· Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.
Skills
Communication- written and oral skills (Bilingual English/Spanish a plus)
Problem identification and resolution.
