Requirements for a CNA:
- High School Diploma or GED
- NYS Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program Certification
- Gives bed baths, tub baths, showers and back rubs. Shampoos & combs hair
- Assists residents or performs oral hygiene, denture care and special mouth care
- Assists residents with nail care
- Answers residents’ call lights and determines residents’ needs
- Assists residents in and out of bed, to the bathroom, with walking with the use of walkers or wheelchairs and range of motion.
- Assists with dressing and shaving as necessary.
- Serves and collects food trays, assists in feeding residents requiring help, provides between meal nourishment and fresh drinking water when indicated. Transports residents to the dining room.
- Assists with other personal hygiene duties to increase the residents’ comfort and well-being
- Makes beds and changes bed linens as needed
- Encourages, motivates and transports residents to participate in recreational, occupational, group and physical therapy to promote activities of daily living.
- Reports any unusual behavior or conditions to the charge nurse immediately. Reports status of residents to the charge nurse at the end of the shift.
- Knows the location of assigned residents at all times.
- Completes documentation of resident status on a daily basis.
- Takes and records temperatures, pulse and respiration rate.
- Accurately weighs residents.
- Obtains urine and stool specimens.
- Responsible for bowel managements.
- Cares for external catheter devices, empties and records drainage at the end of each shift.
- Provides special skin care, may apply compresses, as directed.
