The Memory Care Director oversees day-to-day operations and maintains high quality, innovative programming and services for those residents in Memory Care. Supervises all staff, develops family relations, provides education to staff and families. Maintains a person-directed atmosphere of meaningful engagement and community to maximize the holistic wellness of each resident. Works closely with Health Care Coordinator(s) to ensure that residents’ health care needs are monitored and met by their respective health care providers.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provides direct supervision to caregiving staff in Memory Care, guides and supports other involved staff. Hires, evaluates, and schedules Memory Care Resident Assistants, schedules regular meetings, and coordinates training.
- Ensures that all programs and services align with the “I’m Still Here” philosophy of care for persons living with dementia. Collaborates with Life Enrichment, Spiritual Care Services, and other departments to address all dimensions of wellness for residents. Possesses a strong knowledge about dementia, staying current on the latest treatments, trends, and updates.
- Coordinates resident care needs with Health Care Coordinator(s), Resident Assistants and outside health care professionals, as appropriate. Assesses resident functional capacity and interest in various daily activities, being alert to changes. Communicates changes to licensed nurse, other staff, and families as appropriate. Oversees resident care plan meetings, assessments, and service plans, including regular family meetings. Documents and responds to changes of condition.
- Manages program within budget.
- Ensures that Memory Care units are in compliance with Title 22 regulations.
- Is a primary member of the Community’s leadership team and is expected to participate in administrative and management activities and meetings
Here's what you need:
- Degree in therapeutic activity, gerontology, social worker or related field.
- Two to three years healthcare management/supervisory experience, current CPR certification and demonstrated clinical competency.
- Experience in direct provision of dementia care services in long-term care or community based setting.
- Has working knowledge of Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 8.
- Possesses current First Aid Certification.
- Sensitivity and knowledge of working with older adults, the aging process and dementia care are essential.
- Ability to interact successfully with residents, volunteers, families, and staff.
- Must exhibit initiative, energy, and creativity in developing programming to meet resident needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
