About This Career Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Director with a drive to create an awesome workplace for our amazing team members at our Mercy Retirement and Care Center (MRCC) community in the greater San Francisco Bay area, of Alameda County.
The HR Director manages all community related human resources programs and systems. As a member of the Mercy Retirement and Care Center//Skilled Nursing Facility senior leadership team, the successful candidate serves as an advisor to the Executive Director for all issues related to the community’s workforce.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Operate as an advocate of our Culture of Excellence by demonstrating excellence, especially as it relates to our mission, values and team member experience.
- Must have demonstrated experience successfully managing all aspects of HR, including full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, compliance, leaves of absence, benefits, employee relations, coaching and mentoring, performance reviews and performance management, conflict resolution, payroll, policies and handbook, etc.
- Provides counseling, coaching and support to both leadership and team members of Mercy Retirement and Care Center on work-related issues, employee relations, policy interpretation and creative conflict management/resolution. Guides leadership and others through legally-sound performance management and corrective action process
- Develops and delivers human resources presentation materials, trainings and forms as needed and manages the New Hire Orientation and Culture of Excellence trainings.
- Provides a variety of specialized recruiting services, including development of recruiting strategies, processes and tools; generating a pipeline of qualified candidates and effectively filling open positions in a time sensitive manner
- Administers community full cycle recruitment to include, Guardian Background Check, Physical and TB Screening management.
- Supports the timely maintenance and audit of team member documentation, including health clearances, licenses, certifications, and other job-related training records, to ensure timely renewal, and current updates, for licensure compliance.
- Coordinates annual benefits open enrollment for MRCC in coordination with the corporate HR team. Ensures compliance with ACA and audit requirements for MRCC.
- Manages compensation and performance management programs for MRCC, including owning the performance review process, oversight of annual increases, annual reviews of compensation, and compensation analysis for positions. Partners with corporate HR on compensation strategy and wage scales.
- Manages special projects or initiatives related to recruitment, retention, culture, employee relations, training and development in partnership with regional leadership and corporate human resources.
- Understands local labor law requirements, including California Labor Laws, as they relate to day-to-day operations, including, but not limited to recruiting, employee relations, performance management and leave management.
- Administer community on-boarding Program and provide orientation for new Team Members.
- Oversee COBRA, LOAs, workers compensation, unemployment claims and legal claims.
- Provides administrative assistance and/or leadership support, in partnership with the Front Desk and Administrative Staff, as needed.
- Prepares accounts payable for centralized payment using the appropriate General Ledger accounts. Collaborates with the ECA accounting department regarding accounts payable matters.
- Performs banking operations for the Community in accordance with the directives of the ECA accounting department and the Executive Director.
- Oversees the inventory of office supplies.
- Performs additional duties as needed.
What we're looking for from you:
- Cleared Criminal Record clearance through the Department of Social Services prior to presence in the community.
- Health screening and TB test results not older than 6 months.
- Current First Aid Training and Certifications as per Title 22.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year college in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred or equivalent years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible, Human Resources experience, in a fast-paced business environment. At least five years of experience in a HR management role preferably with at least one direct report.
- A leader with heart who puts culture first is a must for this position. In addition, the ideal candidate must be a self-starter, have high integrity, is intrinsically motivated to learn, and is always looking to improve both themselves and the company they work for.
- Demonstrated experience with full-cycle Recruiting and complex Employee Relations investigations.
- Working knowledge of California labor and OSHA laws; employee relations, legal compliance, benefits management, leave management, performance management and compensation.
- Experience in senior living, hospitality, home care or similar field highly desirable.
- Understanding of Annual State Survey process and the HR requirements for Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing surveyors preferred
- HRCI or SHRM certification highly preferred
- Working knowledge of computer software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and employee database systems in a web-based environment. Experience using HRIS required, with experience with ADP preferred.

- To ensure the health and safety of both our team members and residents, Elder Care Alliance may mandate that team members receive vaccinations, engage in daily screenings, undergo surveillance testing, and utilize face coverings along with other personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with regulatory guidelines to mitigate the transmission of infectious diseases.
