Description :
The Senior Estimator provides leadership and guidance to the entire team during the estimating process. This position will be asked to lead Elder’s largest and most complex project pursuits and will work to develop and grow entry level Estimating staff (Interns & Estimator I), while enhancing each stage of the business development and preconstruction process for our clients.
COMMITMENTS
1. Leads the preparation and presentation of cost / budget information to the customer / owner.
2. Ability to make reliable predictions as it relates to cost and be comfortable estimating across all scopes of work.
3. Prepares detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility-level documentation.
4. Is aggressive in providing innovative solutions to complex issues as they arise related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and / or specified products or materials.
5. Provide leadership.
a. Set direction, align resources, motivate, and inspire the team.
b. Reinforce Elder’s Vision and Core Values.
c. Providing candid feedback in a timely manner.
d. Advises PX and Presidents on project Risk
ACTIVITIES
1. Prepare preconstruction estimates for Conceptual, Schematic and Design Development levels for projects.
2. Lead final award pricing tasks including finalize project cost & alternates; verify Subcontractors’ scope & cost; analyze project risks; resolve conflicts and questions on bid scopes; complete bid day forms, envelope for turnin, bid bonds, etc.
3. Deliver projects to Operations that meet or exceed overhead and profit margin goals.
4. Ensure that document control is maintained.
5. Ensure that construction plans, and specifications are reviewed to complete quantitative takeoffs.
6. Assist in the management of the procurement process from advertisement of projects through final pricing & award.
7. Attends project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interview.
8. Communicate with subcontractor base with regard to project scope, schedule, risks, etc.
9. Schedules estimating team reviews.
10. Coordinate with activities of Project Manager and Superintendent during execution of work for pricing related functions.
11. Support the Operations Staff during buyout.
12. Assist in Preconstruction-Operations transition.
13. Understand contractual terms and conditions.
14. Maintains relationship with subcontractors and clients.
15. Ensure that in-house databases of subcontractors are maintained.
16. Ensure that in-house historical cost databases are maintained.
17. Attend and participate in industry events to promote Elder Construction in the markets we serve.
18. Personal development of leadership and management skills.
Requirements :
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s degree in Building Science, Construction Management, or an Engineering discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 6 years of estimating experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in commercial construction industry, 1-2 years of field experience preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as organization and interpersonal skills.
- Be capable of obtaining the below software competencies within 6 months of employment :
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (including Outlook, Word, Excel and OneNote).
- On-Screen Takeoff Experience
- ProContractor Experience
- Experience with Local Subcontractor Market Preferred
- Experience Consistent with Elder Construction Markets Preferred
- Proficient managing estimates from conceptual to hard bid ranging from $100k-5million in size.
- Proficient in managing Elder Construction Cost Study process.
