Program Coordinator- Olmsted County

Nature of the work: Under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Elder Network Board, the coordinator is responsible for the coordination of Friendly Visitor, and Respite volunteer programs which provide support to those 55 years of age and better and their caregivers. Tasks include initial home visit intake of potential clients; the recruitment, training and supervision of Elder Network volunteers; and actively networks in the community to promote Elder Network in Olmsted County. The coordinator will work directly with clients, volunteers, the executive director, staff, public health nurses, other health care professionals, social services, and the general public to coordinate and deliver these programs to our clients.

Examples of work: (Illustrative Only)

  • Make home Intake visits with older adults. Collect information on mental health, physical health, medications, past history, etc using established intake form.
  • Accurately collects, documents and maintains client and volunteer information as well as services provided in paper files, client database, excel spread sheets for programming purposes and grant reporting.
  • Coordinates and plans appropriate client match with a volunteer.
  • Assists with interviewing potential volunteer trainees
  • Conducts volunteer training
  • Assists with supervision of volunteers
  • Compiles relevant and timely statistics /reports for the Executive Director
  • Assists with preparation of reports to the board and funding organizations as necessary
  • Conducts community presentations of Elder Network programs
  • Assists with ongoing in-service education of volunteers

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Required cont.:

  • Knowledge of mental and physical health issues of older adults
  • Enjoys working with older adults and volunteers
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and meaningful relationships with agency staff members, representatives of other agencies, clients, and the general public
  • Ability to apply previously acquired knowledge and skills to new situations
  • Ability to use supervision and guidance
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Ability to assess needs, train and supervise volunteers in client interactions
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and problem solve in a timely manner to adapt to unexpected needs or changes in plans.
  • Competence in Microsoft suite: Excel, Word and Outlook

Hours: 20 hours/week. Flexible schedule

Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:

  • Prefer degree in public health nursing, social work, or other human services area
  • Prefer experience with older adults
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Able to travel within Olmsted County
