Direct Care Workers (Caregiver)
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES: Administration , Help U Care
OVERVIEW:
The Direct Care Provider/Caregiver is responsible for implementing client services by assisting
with instrumental and activities of daily living which include companionship, homemaking and
personal care services. The provision of these services must be performed to ensure the health,
welfare, safety and independence of our clients. Provide Hourly, Shift, & Live in.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist or supervise client with activities of daily living, including but not limited
to, personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming and incontinence.
Assist or supervise client with instrumental activities of daily living, including but
not limited to, companionship and homemaking services.
Assist or supervise client with ambulation and transfers.
Encourage client to participate with the live-in caregiver to assist in meal planning
and preparation, if possible. Caregiver will serve meals and assist client during
mealtime as necessary.
Responsible for laundry services which may include towels, tablecloths, napkins,
bed linens, etc.
Clean client’s bedroom on a weekly basis or as needed by vacuuming carpets,
sweeping and washing tile floors and cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms and other
common areas used in the home such as kitchen, etc.
Actively support and participate in activity programming in and outside of the
home and encourage client to exercise if possible.
Provide transportation in client’s vehicle when arranged with client and family.
Practice universal precautions and comply with Help U Care . Risk
Management policies and procedures.
Practice safety procedures and comply with established reporting of accidents and
injuries as outlined by Help U Care policies and procedures.
Complete all training requirements as outlined by State regulations and
Help U Care policies and procedures.
Report and document all changes in client’s physical health, mental and emotional
well-being to family and Help U Care personnel.
Documentation of forms as stated in Help U Care of Pennsylvania, Inc.’s policies
and procedures.
Attend to other duties as requested by client and/or responsible party, as long as
the requests are within the scope of Help U Care services as outlined by
State regulations.
Maintain current local and State certification, if applicable.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prefer a certification or proof of prior home care training and two- year
experience in the healthcare field.
Pass Agency Competency Exam approved by PA Department of Health
Prior experience working with seniors is preferred.
Must be able to read, write and follow written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others, especially the
client.
