Safety & Compliance- Transportation Officer

Eldon C. Stutsman, Inc. is looking for a motivated individual with leadership and communication skills to join our team! As the Safety & Compliance – Transportation Officer, you are responsible for the company’s regulatory compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies governing intrastate/interstate transportation, including US and state DOT and FMCSA.

 

Responsibilities include timely preparation and submission of reporting required by regulatory agencies, extensive and accurate recording keeping, administration of day-to-day activities to maintain compliance, the preparation and regular revision of safety policies and manuals and the use of those materials to train staff to promote a safe work environment and safe work behavior. This position has responsibility for a multiple site/multiple legal entity organization and is officed at our headquarters in Hills, Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • All administrative tasks as they pertain to DOT and FMCSA; including but not limited to, tracking all permitting, logging disciplinary actions for drivers, driver qualification files (DQFs) for all DOT/FMCSA regulated employees.
  • Prepare and submit required reporting including, but not limited to MCS-150 (FMCSA).
  • Collection, verification, and on-going maintenance of required records & documents evidencing eligibility to operate commercial motor vehicles in commerce, both during onboarding and periodically throughout the course of employment for over-the-road drivers and all other employees requiring a CDL to perform their job.
  • Administration of drug & alcohol screening programs, both DOT & non-DOT.
  • Implement approved modifications of procedures suggested for continuous improvement of safety statistics.
  • Assure safety meeting attendance and subject matter are properly documented in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct accident and injury investigation and reporting.
  • Act in the capacity of liaison for insurance claims.
  • Conduct or assist with audits/inspections as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Manage and maintain a favorable CSA score.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience in areas of study related to safety or government regulatory agency compliance.
  • 5 to 10 years of previous safety experience is preferred.
  • DOT experience preferred.
  • PC proficient with MS Word and MS Excel and ability to work with software packages.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as interpersonal and supervisory abilities.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required, valid CDL A preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
