ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and drive ambulance at a manageable speed.
- Follow safety procedures and ensure safe and proper transfer of the patient to medical facilities or pre-determined destination.
- Keep ambulance and equipment in optimum operating condition by cleaning and checking to ensure safe and efficient operation of vehicle and equipment.
- Notify supervisor of needed maintenance on vehicles.
- Restock ambulance after each call to ensure adequate supplies are on hand for efficient operation.
- Routinely verify the expiration date of supplies and ensure equipment is operating properly.
- Assist in removing patients from various difficult positions and situations using prudent methods, always considering patient’s injuries and danger of situation.
- Administer first aid to patient in accordance with prudent first aid techniques and degree of training in compliance with hospital protocols.
- Reassure patient and is attentive to patient’s rights and religious beliefs.
- Provide care appropriate for the patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Assess and interpret data on the patient’s status to identify patient’s requirements relative to their age specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
- Obtain, when possible, pertinent patient information by interviewing patient, others and by observing, evaluating patient’s condition and relays information to dispatcher or emergency room staff by radio in order that the information be passed on to the medical facility.
- Maintain dispatching records by recording information required by dispatching form in order to provide accurate record of activity.
- Obtain patient information necessary for billing.
- Maintain confidentiality on a daily basis.
- Work well with other employees.
- Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
- Promote positive public relations within the community while working with patients, families, medical staff, medical personnel, law officials, fire department personnel and others.
- Follow standard precautions when providing direct patient care or handling potentially infectious materials.
- Participate in the department on-call schedule.
