Summary: Responsible for maintaining tanks, preparing diets, facilitating hand’s on guest education programs, and monitoring animals’ health by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities specific to Aquarist. Other duties may be assigned.
- Has experience preparing and feeding a variety of species.
- Comfortable using gravel vacs and cleaning protein skimmers
- Comfortable with water quality testing using Hanna Instruments
- Can identify and is familiar with the life history of several species of fish
- Can maintain large aquarium systems including freshwater fish and sharks.
Duties and Responsibilities for all aquarists
- Demonstrates world class service to guests of Electric City Aquarium at all experience/interpretation areas.
- Delivers engaging and empowering interpretive programs at several touch tanks and exhibit areas to include public conservation conversations, feeding demonstrations, guided tours and roaming between activities to engage our guests.
- Responds to and addresses customer concerns in a positive manner.
- Performs safe animal handling and observation to ensure safety and well-being of animals. Reports concerns to the manager.
- Portions, thaws, and handles raw food for aquatic life following all necessary guidelines for preparing and dispensing meals.
- Maintains animal life support systems, tanks, and exhibits to include tank maintenance and aquatic husbandry to ensure that exhibits and tanks are presentable and well-maintained for specimens.
- Performs various cleaning activities to include sweeping and mopping floor space, vacuuming carpeted areas and cleaning restrooms.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures paying special attention to health and/or safety procedures.
- Maintains flexible schedule to include weekend, evening and holiday hours.
- Maintains training and licensing certifications.
- Attends required staff meetings and training.
- Maintains a professional appearance at all times and displays exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Must demonstrate basic knowledge of fresh and saltwater maintenance
- Minimum 1-2 years hands-on Aquarium/Tank maintenance
- Minimum 1-2 years experience in a public aquarium or similar facility
- Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
