Shipping and Receiving Position Overview
The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for the safe, accurate and timely packaging/crating of items appropriate to the order(s) and pick lists they have been assigned. Personnel are required to maintain high levels of inventory transactional integrity, as well as the accuracy of the contents of each order assigned and the detailed pick list information thereof. Personnel may be required to assist other employees as a helper on key work or machines as required by the work schedule, as well as facilitate the function of truck loading. Personnel will also be required to understand and perform Receiving duties and functions therein. Duties to include, but not limited to, physical receipt of finished goods, parcel and packaging, and raw materials using forklift, pallet jack, and/or by hand when each is applicable. Personnel will be required to understand and perform system-based transactions.
Shipping and Receiving Essential Job Functions
- Move freight, stock or other materials to and from production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, by hand or using a fork lift, hand truck or pallet jack.
- Accomplish the safe, accurate and timely packaging/crating of items appropriate to the order(s) and pick lists they have been assigned
- Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
- Assemble product containers, crates, skids, pallets and boxes using hand tools and pre-cut lumber.
- Pack cartons and re-pack damaged cartons.
- Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
- Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests or order pick lists to verify accuracy.
- Pack, seal, label or affix shipping labels (i.e. UPS, FEDEX, DHL) to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools or computer software.
- Identify inventory shorts and stock positions to help achieve/maintain 95% fill rates.
- Successful processing of PO receipts into the ERP system of all inbound product or material
- Physical receipt and offload of containers and trucks using the applicable equipment provided (forklift/pallet jack/hand truck)
- Completion of other tasks as assigned by the manager.
Shipping and Receiving Competencies
- Ability to read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material/equipment needs; quality control; and safety.
- Effective verbal, written, and mathematical skills are required.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Must have strong general mechanical skills.
- Must be familiar and comfortable with various hand tools and machinery.
- Must be familiar and comfortable with use of ERP system / handheld scanner
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers and vendors in verbal and written form.
- Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Shipping and Receiving Required Education and Experience
- High school graduate/GED.
- Prior certification or completed skill training on Forklift.
- >1 years’ experience in a warehouse/manufacturing environment
Shipping and Receiving Preferred Education and Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment
- Certification on Forklift and Overhead Crane
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, pull or push up to 50 lbs.; anything over 50 lbs. is to be assisted.
- Be on your feet 8-10 hours per day.
- Must demonstrate good hand/eye coordination; Must demonstrate good manual dexterity.
- Must be able to repetitively use arms, hands, and fingers in the manipulation of parts.
- Must wear required PPE as directed.
Hours of Work
- Monday-Thursday, 7:00 am - 4:30 pm
- Friday - 7:00 am - 12:00 pm
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $17.50 per hour
