What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSP Construction Laborer/Operator position at Electrical Production Services?
SUMMARY
EPS is an electrical, low-voltage and fiber solutions company providing underground utility construction services and fiber optic cabling and splicing. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of manual labor duties, including work site preparation, transportation of materials for underground utility construction projects. This position falls under the direct supervision of the OSP Field Foreman.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs assigned duties and work assignments in accordance with EPS standards.
(a) Performs physical labor tasks not limited to digging or trenching with shovels or digging equipment.
(b) Responsible for driving and operating bucket trucks, pulling trailers with equipment including large fiber reels to work sites. Class A Driver’s License is preferred (CDL)
(c) Seeks out or takes initiative to perform additional work assignments when required.
2. Duties and daily responsibilities include:
(a) Ability to operate certain pieces of equipment.
(b) Grease, oil and do daily maintenance of equipment.
(c) Hand dig around existing utilities and manhole covers when necessary.
(d) Carry and transport materials to be used on the job.
(e) Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
(f) Report and equipment repairs needed to OSP Field Foreman or Warehouse Manager.
(g) Assist in the hauling of equipment to and from the jobsite.
(h) Clean up and restore work area when work if completed.
(i) Complete all other duties as assigned.
3. Essential Education and Qualifications:
(a) Must have good verbal and communication skills.
(b) Must have a valid driver’s license.
(c) Must have valid DOT Health Card
(d) Preferred to have CDL Class A Driver’s License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB
Incumbent must be able to:
1. Give and receive detailed information through verbal and written communication.
2. Operate motor vehicles, have a good driving record, ability to driving to and from work sites, corporate office, and materials locations.
3. Sufficient vision to read instructions, documents, etc. as well as to drive in daylight and at night and to avoid hazards on the job site.
4. Regularly withstand Minnesota hot and cold weather conditions to perform outdoor responsibilities.
5. In the performance of assigned responsibilities may be required to:
· Apply extensive physical mobility (manual dexterity, reaching, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, arm, and leg extension) to supervise and perform construction activities including the ability to climb stairs and ladders, run conduit, dig trenches, etc.
· Possess extensive arm and hand mobility and strength to lift, hold, reach, carry, push and pull commonly used materials. Able to use power and hand tools on fiber site. Also, able to move tools and materials into and out of vehicles.
· Regularly lift and move up to 50 to 75 pounds throughout the workday.
· Ability to distinguish different colors, possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor skills, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds at times. Walk over uneven terrain, over debris and other obstacles.
4. Represents Electrical Production Services in a positive, professional manner.
(a) Develops and maintains professional relationship and communication with customers and EPS Fiber Team members
(b) Communicates effectively with coworkers, including fiber sales, office, and management staff.
(c) Presents a neat and professional appearance and attitude.
5. Completes assignments thoroughly and on time and in compliance with safety and construction codes and regulations.
(a) Checks own work regularly to ensure that work meets specification, is thorough and complete and of the highest quality.
(b) Adheres to and enforces OSHA safety standards.
(c) Reports any safety or compliance-related problems to supervisor or EPS management.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs and completes various tasks as directed by others or as needed.
2. Performs other assignments as instructed or requested by OSP Field Foreman
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Desired Education and Experience
· A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
· Must possess a valid Driver’s License. (Preferred CDL License-Class A)
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
- Must be familiar with and able to use basic hand and power tools typically used in the OSP construction work site.
- Familiarity with and ability to operate equipment.
- Must wear appropriate protective safety-wear on the fiber construction site.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most of the work is completed outside on fiber work sites. Must be able to work around noisy tools, machinery, and equipment. Must be able to work both indoors and outside in a wide range of Minnesota weather conditions and temperatures. Daily exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, fiber debris, and odors from fiber splicing setting.
