Mechanical Designer / CNC Programmer

Candidates must have expertise across multiple technologies and will have a demonstrated ability to effectively interface with a broad range of internal and external team members. This person will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager in the form of broad and specific project objectives, associated documentation, and daily accountability meetings.
The function of the Mechanical Designer/Programmeris to help the Engineering team design and develop controlled (released) drawings as well as the associated documentation and specifications for all EMI new and existing projects and perform programming of sheet metal parts for laser cutting and/or turret punching equipment.
Essential Job Duties:
· Program equipment for metal fabrication using Radan Post Processing software.
· Trouble shoot and modify existing CNC programs to efficiently produce parts using minimum material.
· Efficiently and effectively design and create 3-D models of custom parts and products for electrical distribution equipment (primarily sheet metal) to comply with industry standards using Inventor CAD software.
· Produce manufacturing drawings from 3-D models using Inventor CAD software.
· Collaborate with other project members in a consolidated effort to meet project estimated costs, schedules and quality requirements to achieve total Customer Satisfaction.
· Help develop, generate and update the technical and manufacturing standards of current and new products to achieve higher productivity and lower costs.
· Respond to Manufacturing Operations to resolve daily design requests/questions.
· Maintain accurate and up to date project designs with detailed information about all projects.
· Specify material requirements and create accurate BOM’s for purchasing, engineering, and manufacturing purposes.
· Have the ability to interface with Manufacturing personnel on a daily basis to address issues that may arise.
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
· Candidates must have a High School diploma/GED or equivalent.
· Associate degree in Mechanical Design or higher preferred.
· 2 years previous experience in a custom sheet metal fabrication job shop is required.
· Experience in the electrical distribution industry is preferred.
· 2 years of experience in a variety of custom manufacturing and staff assignments is preferred.
· Technology requirements: Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (Inventor preferred), Radan, AutoCAD and use of ERP computer system (Visual preferred).
Competencies:
· Ability to understand the technical needs of the clients through conversational interaction with sales reps, project managers, engineering, and production personnel.
· Knowledge of compliance standards and NRTC procedure compliance.
· Knowledge of document control preferred.
· Ability to create, read, analyze and interpret blueprints and schematics.
· Able to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently.
· Ability to work independently as well as with others.
· Detail oriented with the ability to create and record data.
· Ability to multi-task in an environment of competing priorities.
· Ability to interface with all departments within the company.
· Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing.
· Highly organized.
Work environment: The majority of the work is performed primarily in an office setting, with minimal noise. Up to 15% time may be spent on the manufacturing production floor with typical manufacturing noise.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing, union environment.
· Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move about the facility.
· Vision and hearing are required.
· Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
· Must be able to climb, stretch and maneuver on ladders.
Work hours: This is a full-time, exempt position working typical office hours, Monday- Friday (start time flexible between 6:00-8:00 am).
