Mold Maker
Job Summary:
The Mold Maker is responsible for designing, manufacturing, and repairing precision molds used in Plastic injection molding processes. This role is essential for ensuring the accuracy and quality of molds and tooling that meet our high standards. The Mold Maker will collaborate with various teams to troubleshoot and solve mold-related issues, while also mentoring apprentices and recommending continuous improvements to processes and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the manufacturing and repair of injection molds used in production, ensuring accuracy and precision.
- Read and interpret CAD files, drawings, and technical specifications to construct and modify molds.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments and work with the quality department to ensure mold dimensions and tolerances are met.
- Communicate effectively with scheduling and department leads to ensure timely delivery of tooling projects.
- Mentor apprentices, providing guidance and hands-on training in mold-making techniques and safety practices.
- Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and workplace safety.
- Perform routine maintenance, repair, and modifications to existing customer molds as necessary.
- Collaborate with other departments, including design, engineering, and production, to ensure molds meet the required specifications.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, following safety protocols and company standards.
- Assist in the setup and operation of CNC and manual equipment as required for mold production.
- Recommend ideas for improving procedures and environment to continue to make Electroform a better place to work.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of mold-making processes and tooling.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities related to mold issues and production challenges.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of industry-specific materials and processes.
- Ability to mentor and effectively communicate with apprentices and junior staff.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in mold making or machining is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
