The Director of Construction will manage data center projects' design and construction phases nationally, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and timelines. Additionally, this role will empower a culture of safety, security and compliance in all aspects of data center operations. Interact and maintain relationships with customer reps, subs and employees. The individual will be responsible for planning, organizing, and structuring a logical construction sequence and flow from project inception through Commissioning and closeout. The individual will need to be skilled and able to resolve complex situations arising from unforeseen conditions (site design, equipment, permitting, etc.). The Director of Construction will report to the VP of Operations.
Major Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the Construction and Design for all projects nationally.
- Oversee all aspects of large-scale construction, design and maintenance projects, including working with outside vendors and contractors.
- Manage third-party professionals such as architectural, civil, structural, electrical, mechanical and other contractors.
- Build and maintain successful internal relationships with departments such as Executive Leadership, Legal, Finance, Operations, Engineering and Facilities.
- Supervise due diligence, construction entitlements, budgets, architectural design reviews, site engineering, permitting, scheduling and project coordination from start to completion.
- Create and maintain best practices to identify and incorporate cost-effective solutions.
- Manage General Contractors GC(s) and vendor performance along with their integration with internal partners to ensure project delivery on time and on budget.
- Facilitate decision-making to drive solutions and schedules and manage change as required.
- Apply influence, strategies, and negotiation skills to identify options and recommend solutions.
Communication:
- Effectively communicate key needs to the engineering, design, and sourcing teams.
- Review cost and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics, invoices, and process/policy communications to client partners regularly.
- Provide the project with a single point of contact for development, quality control and delivery.
- Coordinate meetings and activities of vendors, cost managers, and integration lessons learned.
- Attending scheduled owner/architect/contractor (OAC) and other project meetings and reporting as necessary.
- Report Project Progress on scope, schedule, and budget weekly or as required.
- Provide weekly project status reporting to DCD standards.
- Accountability:
- Responsible for supporting the senior management on emergent issues and business-critical events.
- Responsible for contributing to a safe & effective site culture.
- Responsible for development, managing, and reporting on safety, scope, schedule, and budget.
Vendor Management and contract compliance:
- Provide Vendor oversight and performance management by walking the construction sites daily.
- Preparation of Request for Proposal (RFP’s) and other project approval tools & templates.
- Review and approval of vendor scope of work, and design review of site and building plans.
- Manage compliance with prior audit results and recommendations.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Certification / License
- ·OSHA 30
Work Experience
- 15 years of construction leadership experience.
- 10 years of proven management and development of large teams.
- Experience managing and directing large-scale data center projects (insert square footage and revenue $ amount).
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Proficient interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly organized
- Ability to self-direct
Preferred Job Requirements
Education

Travel: Travel required up to 75-80% as a regular part of the job.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.
