Optical Design Engineer Intern

Since 1975, ETC has provided innovative lighting fixtures to the theatre, architectural and entertainment industries. Our lights include both wash style, and profile spot (re-imaging) lights, providing lighting designers with a broad range of choices over field of view, color gamut, diffusion, projected images, and special effects. Our optical engineers combine skills in lens design, illumination design, and colorimetry to provide spectacular image quality, color, and control.
Position Specific Duties
Assignment may involve lens design & analysis, illumination design, colorimetry, photometric testing, image quality assessment relating to entertainment or architectural LED lighting fixtures. May also involve QA/Manufacturing, support of existing fixtures, or new lighting fixtures currently in development.
Make design modifications or improvements to research and development projects. Become familiar with tools and software applications (Zemax, SolidWorks) utilized by R&D department. Develop test and verification procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Has some knowledge of optical design principles. Applies accepted engineering practices. Demonstrates ability to solve problems and perform root cause analysis. Works effectively in a team environment. Some interest in theatre, the arts or photography is a bonus.
Education and Experience
· 1-2 years post high school education in area of specialization or
· Working towards Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering or related field
· Junior or Senior year status with relevant courses in Optical Engineering
· GPA: ~3.0 or higher
· This position requires current authorization to work in the US
