Electus Global Education Co, Inc. is a Florida/Texas-based hybrid edtech/fintech social enterprise startup with ground-breaking educational and financial technologies that empower young people (6-18 years) to learn financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career (FLEC) skills as well as income-generating skills and behaviors at home, in school, and in their communities.
This is an opportunity for a passionate Data Scientist & Ethicist to join a growing team in our social enterprise with technologies that address critical societal issues including economic empowerment, educational equality, equality of opportunity, social upward mobility, and social justice.
PLEASE NOTE: We are a startup, and the Chief Data Scientist & Ethicist will join our team on a part-time basis initially for equity compensation only and then transition to full-time hours for salary compensation after we have secured funding. This role offers flexibility of part-time hours, allowing you to balance your part-time work with Electus with your current full-time work commitments.
Position Overview:
As the Chief Data Scientist & Ethicist, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our technologies, including extracting valuable insights from our diverse datasets, spanning users’ learning engagements, behaviors, habits, and patterns, financial transactions, and more.
Additionally, we are committed to fostering a safe and ethical learning environment, and data privacy and responsible data practices are paramount to our mission. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the ethical collection, use, and protection of user data, particularly given the sensitivity nature of working with users under 18 years.
You will work closely with our product, engineering, research, legal, and marketing team members to identify opportunities for innovation and drive data-informed decisions, as well as embed ethical considerations into all aspects of our data lifecycle.
As the Data Scientist, you will aid:
- To analyze User Behavior: Dive deep into user data to understand how young people learn and interact with our platform, identifying areas for improvement and personalization.
- To develop Learning Models: Build and refine machine learning models to enhance the learning experience, providing personalized recommendations and adaptive learning paths.
- To improve Financial Products: Analyze financial data to optimize our fintech products, ensuring they are engaging, safe, and relevant for our young users.
- To drive Innovation: Explore new ways to leverage data to improve our platform, creating innovative features that enhance learning and financial literacy.
- Communicate Insights: Present your findings to stakeholders in a clear and compelling way, influencing product development and business decisions.
As the Data Ethicist, you will aid:
- To develop and maintain ethical guidelines: Create and update data ethics policies and procedures, specifically addressing the unique considerations related to children's data. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., COPPA, GDPR).
- To conduct ethical reviews: Review new products, features, and research initiatives to identify potential ethical risks related to data collection and usage. Provide recommendations for mitigating these risks.
- To promote data literacy: Educate internal teams on data ethics best practices, particularly as they relate to children's privacy and well-being.
- To monitor data practices: Regularly audit data collection and usage practices to ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements. Investigate and address any ethical concerns or data breaches.
- Engage with stakeholders: Collaborate with schools, youth organizations parents, educators, and child advocacy groups to understand their concerns and incorporate their feedback into data ethics policies.
