Job Summary:
The Insurance Collections Specialist is responsible for managing the collection process for outstanding claims from insurance companies. This role involves verifying claims, following up on unpaid accounts, and resolving discrepancies to ensure timely reimbursement for services rendered.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Claims Management: Review and analyze unpaid and denied insurance claims.
Prepare and submit appeals for denied claims, ensuring all necessary documentation is included.
Follow-Up: Initiate follow-up communications with insurance companies to track the status of claims.
Maintain a systematic follow-up process for outstanding claims to ensure timely payment.
Dispute Resolution: Work with insurance representatives to resolve discrepancies and clarify billing issues.
Collaborate with internal departments to gather information needed for claims resolution.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all interactions and transactions with insurance companies.
Document collection efforts and outcomes for reporting purposes.
Reporting: Generate reports on collection performance, aged receivables, and resolution status.
Analyze trends in claims denials and payment delays to recommend process improvements.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and insurance guidelines.
Stay updated on changes in insurance policies and industry standards.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
2 years of experience in medical billing or insurance collections.
Familiarity with medical coding (CPT, ICD-10) is beneficial.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting for Extended Periods: Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for long durations.
Manual Dexterity: Proficient use of hands for typing, data entry, and handling paperwork.
Visual Acuity: Ability to read and review documents, both in print and on a computer screen.
Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate via phone and in person, requiring clear speech and hearing.
Occasional Lifting: Ability to lift and carry documents or office supplies (up to 10 lbs) as needed.
Mobility: Ability to move within an office environment to collaborate with team members or access files and equipment.
