JOB TITLE: Elementary Special Education Teacher, 1.0 FTE
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Special Services Director
JOB SUMMARY: Special Education Teachers are employed to provide specialized learning experiences to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. In a supportive and collaborative learning environment, students receive specially designed instruction around their individual education plan goals and objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
- Hold or be eligible for Oregon Teaching Certification with special education endorsement.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and parents from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior successful experience teaching students with a variety of disabilities.
- Experience developing legally compliant Individual Education Plans.
- Experience creating and using visual schedules and teaching functional routines.
- Proficient in Trauma Informed Practices and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies.
- Proficient in the use of educational technology systems.
- Spanish language skills
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as case manager for students eligible for special education and related services.
- Use multiple sources of information to develop comprehensive understanding of students’ strengths and needs.
- Solution oriented collaboration with school personnel to systematically design specialized instruction for students with disabilities in identified areas of need.
- Work in partnership with school personnel to provide instructional and developmental supports for students with disabilities in a variety of settings.
- Establish and maintain a consistent, organized, respectful and effective learning environment and demonstrate day-to-day flexibility with students and colleagues.
- Monitor student progress regularly and provide written reports of progress toward IEP goals to parents in accordance with the District’s schedule.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, staff and families concerning students’ progress towards their individual goals.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190-Day Contract at 1.0 FTE. Based on current SEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement, salary dependent on the negotiated agreement ($50,073-$101,649 annually) with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement. Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and three personal days, pro-rated per school year. Benefit information can be found at https://www.seaside.k12.or.us/hr/benefits.
