Qualifications
- Must hold proper certification through the Arkansas Department of Education
- Minimum of Masters Degree with an accredited educational institution
- Experience working in a school environment
- Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing
- Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management
- Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning
Responsibilities
- Serve as a leader in the school and community to advocate and support student success
- To teach guidance curriculum as outlined by ADE standards
- Assist students in academic achievement, introduction to careers and personal/social development
- Provide individual counseling, group counseling and classroom guidance lessons
- Develop and maintain, in collaboration with all district counseling personnel, a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program based on the Arkansas Comprehensive School Counseling Standard Course of Study and current individual school data
- Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders (i. e. administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community/business leaders)
- Use data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs
- Provide Leadership and collaborates with other educators in the school-wide integration of the State Guidance Curriculum Standard Course of Study
- Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals
- Incorporate into their programs the life skills that students need to be successful in the twenty-first century
- Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans
- Work with staff to promote an understanding of human development theories and developmental issues affecting student success
- To serve as liaison with the school-based mental health agencies/teams
- Develop and utilize materials and instructional strategies to meet students’ needs and school goals
- Analyze data to determine program effectiveness and identify program needs
- Promote the district’s and school’s vision and mission
- Keep accurate record of all counseling and guidance activities
- Inform administration of various students’ needs
- Collaborate with other district counselor and social worker regarding student needs
- Protect the confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with state laws and Board policies
- Remain up to date an current with public school counseling training, trends and best practices
- To pursue continuous professional growth
Responsibilities:
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintain current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders School counselors shall spend at least ninety percent (90%) of work time each month during the school year providing direct counseling related to students and shall devote no more than ten percent (10%) of work time each month during the school year to administrative activities provided that the activities relate to the provision of guidance services.
Salary : $50,000 - $60,000
