What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cellarperson position at Elephant & Co.?
At Eastern Market Brewing Company, we believe that quality beer starts with a clean cellar. The cellarperson position is responsible for maintaining a clean fermentation cellar, transferring beer from fermentation vessels to brite tanks, packaging finished product, and assisting in the brewery as needed. This position primarily reports to our Royal Oak production facility and will be required to work shifts in additional locations as scheduled including Ferndale Project, Elephant & Co. Detroit, and Eastern Market Brewing Co.
Job Responsibilities:
Clean in Place/Sanitation
- CIP and sanitize fermentation vessels and brite tanks
- Transfer beer from fermentation vessels to brite tanks
- CIP and sanitize kegs and maintain inventory of clean kegs using Kegshoe tracking
- Clean external surfaces of fermentation vessels and brite tanks
- Continuous cleaning and organization of brewery and miscellaneous parts
Packaging
- Carbonate beer to desired volume and perform carbonation checks
- Keg beer from brite tanks
- Set up, operate, and clean Wild Goose canning line across locations
Brewery Assistance
- Communication with Brewer on daily tasks to be done
- Assist with gravity checks, temperature, and pH readings throughout the fermentation process
- Fruit and dry hop beer
- Pitch and harvest yeast
- Prepare grain for brew days
- Assisting across all locations if/when needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Follow all SOPs and safety protocols
- Demonstrate careful attention to detail
- Frequent problem solving
- Complete tasks contained on the cellar schedule safely and efficiently
- Communicate clearly with brew team and other cellarpersons throughout the day to maintain positive workflow and work environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and plenty of walking
- Work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment and materials
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and be able to move/lift kegs
