What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Aid Advisor / Veterans Certifying Official position at Elgin Community College?
Job Summary :
An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty assisting students and veteran students, in understanding financial aid programs, regulations and processes. Work is distinguished by the ability to explain and evaluate forms to determine the completeness of each financial aid application file and to disseminate financial aid information. General supervision is received from the assigned manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Bachelor's degree (BA / BS) from four-year institution with a minimum of two years' work experience in a financial aid setting; or equivalent combination of education and / or experience.
- Good knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.
- Good knowledge of Veterans office requirements and the ability to remain current.
- Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
- Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Considerable skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Considerable skills in verbal and written communication.
- Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.
