A driver / delivery specialist is a professional who uses various methods to transport incoming raw materials, incoming and out-going sub-assemblies, and finished goods equipment. drivers / delivery specialist are responsible for ensuring the proper handling of the above-referenced items against work order and company-specified requirements. This person will also cross-train in other areas of the organization to allow more internal mobility in times added help is needed in a specific department. Drivers / delivery specialists must be familiar with and comply with all company safety requirements, Department of Transportation standards and laws and may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in an area of specialty. The general responsibilities / qualifications include:
- Must be able to work within a team-based environment.
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
- Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing his job function.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license to be reviewed on a routine basis. Will need to meet local Department of Transportation requirements, which may include medical certification and drug screening.
- Excellent navigation skills and proficiency in using navigation applications to find delivery locations.
- Time management and organizational skills to keep track of deliveries and stay on schedule.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers and fellow employees.
- Physical stamina and good upper body strength to lift heavy loads, packages and objects, as well as be able to load and unload them from transport vehicles.
- May perform other duties as assigned by management.
Driver Qualifications:
- 0 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment performing equipment transportation, handling, and/or logistics.
- Possess basic knowledge of material handling and logistics. May operate forklift or hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area.
- Responsible for safe handling of materials with forklifts, hard carts, and/or jib cranes.
- Assist with affixing shipping labels on packed cartons using stenciling equipment.
- Transport materials to and from destinations safely and per company policies and Department of Transportation laws.
- Arrive at destinations on schedule.
- Research and plan for traffic, construction and weather delays.
- Use navigation applications to determine the best route.
- Ensure that the vehicle is always fueled and ready for use.
- Arrange for vehicle repairs as needed and ensure that company vehicles are clean and orderly.
- As required, keep mileage records and repair records up-to-date.
