Job Description
The Eligibility Counselor -EC is responsible for screening hospital uninsured patients and the advancement of accounts of potential eligibility of federal, state and county government assistance programs, as well as hospital financial programs.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains a large caseload with minimum or no delinquencies
- Contacts patients and creates collaborative teamwork to obtain needed information for application advancement
- Uses clear, simple language to ensure understanding in English and/or Spanish
- Complies with all state and federal laws regarding HIPAA and confidentiality requirements
- Able to remain focused and productive each day with minimum supervision
- Demonstrates respect for all individuals
- Adheres to ECI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Soft Skills Needed for the Ideal EC:
- A compassionate heart and a sincere desire to assist patients during any phase of their application process
- Strong work ethic demonstrated with excellent outcomes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Desire to provide the best possible experience for our patients
- Experience navigating a computer while on the phone
- Willing to work and contribute to a team environment
- Ability to trouble-shoot problems
- Listens effectively
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma / GED (or higher)
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week)
- Knowledge of Medicaid and SSI programs
- Prior Experience with HHSC (Medicaid, County Indigent, TANF, SSI) a plus
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Physical and Work Requirements:
- Long periods of walking, standing, frequent speaking, listening using a headset, sitting, use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse, extensive periods working at a computer.
- Able to work from hospital site M-F 8 am - 4:30 pm.
- Must be willing and able to take required vaccinations (no Covid vaccine).
