Eliot's Nan Project is currently seeking a Peer Coordinator, who will oversee expansion to new schools in Southeastern MA. The ideal candidate will have experience as a Peer Mentor working with youth, schools and community agencies, and be based in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The NAN Project seeks to improve the conversation around mental health and ultimately reduce suicidal thoughts among young people through sharing stories of lived experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience working in the mental health field preferred.
  • Training and experience as a Peer Mentor or working with transition age youth, especially around suicide prevention and mental health education.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills necessary (Spanish or second language ability preferred); public speaking experience necessary. 
  • Must be well organized and detail orientated, team player and have a sense of humor.
  • Qualified candidates will have basic knowledge and ability to use Excel, Google Drive, Word, and be open to learning new programs such as Monday.com, MailChimp, Canva, and Wordpress.
  • Strong social media skills are a plus. Experience identifying and writing grants, or donor solicitation work is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a car and willingness to travel extensively throughout Massachusetts, especially the southeast region of the State.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage outreach and correspondence for events in southeastern MA.
  2. Recruit Peer Mentors and promoting The NAN Project programming to youth-serving organizations in southeastern MA and attend all The NAN Project’s events and trainings.
  3. Create and maintain connections with schools and community organizations in SE MA.
  4. Create and present stories about the mental health challenges young people experienced in school, and detailing the supports and resources used.
  5. Sharing your story with the purpose and intent of providing hope, reducing the stigma and educating students about mental health challenges and recovery.
  6. Provide strength-based feedback on Peer Mentors’ stories / presentations / general performance and work one-on-one with Peer Mentors to create stories of resilience.
  7. Facilitating training and team-building activities for Peer Mentors.
  8. Prepare content and materials for workshops, trainings, presentations, or events.
  9. Assist with the evidence-based suicide prevention training: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) after certification. Attend QPR/other trainings to gain train-the-trainer certification
  10. Coordinate with school peer leadership teams to run regular events.
  11. Organize standard operating procedures and ensuring implementation.
  12. Responsible to send thank you emails to stakeholders after events and written notes and packages
  13. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
