The NAN Project works to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention programs for young people, using a peer-to-peer model.

Eliot is seeking a NAN Project Peer Coordinator an energetic, positive, service-oriented individual to provide support to our peers and be a coordinator with our schools for our program, The NAN Project . 

 

The Project emphasizes: 

Acknowledging that mental illness is a very serious problem;
Accepting mental health challenges as illnesses of the brain, similar to physical ailments, which can be treated;
Providing access to treatment for all families and their children.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience working in the mental health field preferred.
  • Training and experience as a Peer Mentor or working with transition age youth, especially around suicide prevention and mental health education considered.
  •  Excellent English and Spanish verbal and written communication skills necessary; public speaking experience necessary.  Experience identifying and writing grants, or donor solicitation work is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a car and willingness to travel extensively throughout Massachusetts, especially the southeast region of the State.

Responsibilities:

1.      Build Connections in Greater Boston: Engage with schools, youth-serving organizations, and community groups specifically in Everett and more generally in Greater Boston to promote The NAN Project’s mission and programming.

2.      Recruit & Empower Peer Mentors: Identify and train young adults with lived mental health experience to share their stories of hope and resilience, in both English & Spanish.

3.      Create and present stories about the mental health challenges young people experienced in school, and detailing the supports and resources used.

4.      Sharing your story with the purpose and intent of providing hope, reducing the stigma and educating students about mental health challenges and recovery.

5.      Educate Students about Mental health: collaborate with Peer Mentors to present engaging, relevant lessons about mental health challenges and resilience in classrooms across MA.

6.      Facilitate Trainings: Lead workshops, team-building activities, and evidence-based suicide prevention training (e.g., QPR) after certification.

7.      Champion Inclusion: Address the intersectionality of mental health challenges and identity (e.g., race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender) in your outreach and presentations.

8.  Provide strength-based feedback on Peer Mentors’ stories / presentations / general performance.

9.  Work one-on-one with Peer Mentors to create stories of resilience.

10.  Facilitating training and team-building activities for Peer Mentors and prepare content and materials for workshops, trainings, presentations, or events.

11.  Send written thank you notes and packages to stakeholders, funders, & donors.

12.  Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
