ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director shall see that the goals and objectives of the Center are in keeping with its Philosophy and Mission. This is a full time position.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Center Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have documentation of at least one of the following to be considered as Director/Director Designee according to state licensing: 1. an early childhood ancillary certificate and one year of experience in teaching or care in a licensed early learning center or comparable setting, subject to approval by the department; or 2. a national administrator credential and one year experience in teaching or care in a licensed early learning center, or comparable setting, plus 6 credit hours or 90 clock hours of training in child care, child development, early childhood, or management/administration, subject to approval by the department; or 3. three years of experience as a director or staff in a licensed early learning center, or comparable setting, subject to approval by the department plus 6 credit hours or 90 clock hours of training in child care, child development, early childhood, or management/administration approved by the department.
- Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledgeable of licensing requirements for a child care center
- Experienced in childcare management software, e-mail, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher)
- Proven leadership and coaching skills
- Flexible and calm in fast-paced working environment
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director is to assist the Director in the following duties, and, in the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director has the authority to make necessary decisions.
- STAFF
Assists the Center Director in the following:
- Hire and dismiss employees when Director is unable to do so.
- Train new staff members according to Center policies.
- Work with the teacher mentor (possibly mentor a set of teachers)
- Help staff members enrolled in CDA program keep their studies and documentations in order and submitted on time.
- Hold individual conferences as needed.
- Help with staff evaluations.
- Enforce personnel policies.
- Enforce policies as outlined in the Personnel Policy Manual.
- Keep track of number of workshop hours completed for each staff member.
- Supervise volunteer staff.
- Pay attention to staff schedules and make sure all classrooms are at ratio.
- Carry out requests asked by the Director.
- OFFICE
- Consult with Director in all Center expenditures.
- Assist in maintenance of personnel files if needed.
- Help carry out fundraising activities and complete any follow up procedures.
- Maintain personnel files, keeping paperwork in proper sequence.
- PARENTS AND CHILDREN
- Conduct tours with parents.
- Interview parents placing children in the Center.
- Hold personal or telephone conferences with parents as necessary.
- Handle parent complaints according to procedures outlined in the parent's handbook.
- Observe children's schedules and classroom assignments.
- GENERAL DUTIES
- Maintain Center in compliance with state and local fire and health codes and state licensing.
- Assist Director in overseeing Center marketing and outreach, including all external and internal communications.
- Create brochures and flyers when needed.
- Plan special Center activities and events as needed.
- Supervise general condition, cleanliness, and maintenance of building and grounds
