JOB TITLE: EMR (Emergency Medical Responder)
REPORTS TO: First Aid Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: First Aid
PAY RATE: $19.00 per hour
JOB SUMMARY: Administer First Aid to those injured or ill.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patient assessments, including physical examination and First Aid and Basic Life Support including airway management, ventilation support, circulatory and shock management, clinical assessment orthopedic care, obstetrics, medical and trauma care and patient extrication and safety.
- Willingness to complete lifeguard training
- Will have to recognize the need for special or additional assistance, including Advance Life Support, ambulance transport, patient extrication, rescue, or other services.
- Will be responsible for appropriately interviewing patients, family members, bystanders, and witnesses. May also be responsible for Physician contact, patient transport.
- Various duties will include telecommunications, radio communications and dispatch of resources.
- You will be responsible for doing inspections, inventory, maintenance, preventative maintenance, cleaning of facilities, grounds, work areas, vehicles, and equipment.
- Understands and performs appropriately under the Emergency Response Plan, including disaster and Multiple Casualty incidents (MCI) operations and management.
- Infection Control, biohazard material identification and clean up and disposal.
- Basic identification of hazardous atmospheres, materials, and incidents.
- Vehicle operations, emergency vehicle operation, and defensive driving, ambulance, and other vehicles in safe manor.
- Administration duties will include filing, computer operation, data entry and reports.
- Understands, supports, and follows the Standard Operating Procedures and Patient care protocols set by Denver Metro Protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned needed or required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has Obtained as a minimum a high school diploma or GED.
- Possesses and maintains a current State of Colorado Emergency Medical Responder certification and completes all requirements for renewal, including continuing education classes or hours.
- Possesses and maintains a valid and current American Heart Association or an accepted equivalent nationally standardized Healthcare Provider CPR certification card.
- Has a working knowledge of Denver Metro Protocols.
- Possesses and maintains a valid and current Driver’s License.
- Ability to communicate well, verbally and in written form. Ability to interpret written, oral, and diagnostic form instructions. Ability to read and understand English language manuals, texts, and maps. Accurately discern and interpret directions, street signs, addresses, and landmarks. Ability to converse and comprehend English appropriately. Ability to interview appropriately interview patients, family members, bystanders, witnesses. Ability to accurately document in writing all relevant information in prescribed format.
- Hears and listens well.
- Ability to lift, carry and balance heavy loads. Manipulate and operate tools, equipment etc. to the specifications and standards of the manufacturer or Patient Protocols.
- Ability to use good judgement and stay calm in high stress situations.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment with loud noises and flashing lights.
- Ability to function effectively through an entire shift or assignment.
- Good manual dexterity, with ability to perform all tasks related to the highest quality of patient care and with ability to perform all tasks related to Health Services personnel.
- Ability to walk, run, bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain,
- Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, moisture, dryness, etc.
- In this position you may be exposed to blood, body fluids, and potentially infectious materials, and communicable disease.
- Ability to work in low light, confined spaces, and potentially hazardous environment.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Available to work overtime, if over 18.
