What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Practitioner (Infectious Disease House Call) position at Elite Infectious Disease?
The Nurse Practitioner in Infectious Disease provides comprehensive healthcare services to patients with infectious diseases. They conduct thorough assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and manage patients in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, and outpatient facilities. The NP works both independently and in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based care, focusing on infection prevention, diagnosis, and management.
- Perform physical examinations, obtain patient history, and assess clinical signs and symptoms related to infectious diseases.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, including cultures, blood work, and imaging, to identify infectious pathogens.
- Diagnose infectious diseases, such as HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, MRSA, fungal infections, and others.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, including prescribing appropriate antimicrobial or antiviral therapies.
- Monitor patients' response to treatment and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Provide preventive care and patient education on avoiding infection, maintaining hygiene, and using vaccines.
- Manage patients with chronic infections and comorbidities, including immunocompromised individuals.
- Collaborate with healthcare facilities to develop and implement infection control protocols.
- Educate staff, patients, and caregivers on infection prevention measures and safe practices.
- Participate in hospital or clinic infection control programs and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other specialists, to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Refer patients to appropriate specialists for further treatment or management of complex cases.
- Serve as a liaison between the healthcare team, patients, and families to communicate treatment plans and progress.
- Educate patients on the nature of infectious diseases, transmission, treatment options, and preventive measures.
- Provide counseling on health behaviors, vaccination schedules, and infection risk reduction strategies.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of patient assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and progress.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and healthcare facility policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including data collection and analysis of infection control outcomes.s
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Adult/geriatric NP or family medicine NP
- Experience caring for older adults
- Must be willing to travel within the Greater Las Vegas area
- Must have good computer skills
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Must be organized
- Must have great relationship building skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to drive and carry a backpack with basic medical equipment and a computer
- Must be a good team player; able to work with doctors and colleagues
- Must have solid people relationship skills
- Must be able to relate well with patients
- Limited bending turning, kneeling and stooping, lifting, sitting and standing
- Repetitive motion required including computer entry
