Assistant Controller

Join a dynamic financial services firm as an Assistant Controller, overseeing the finance and accounting functions for two publicly traded entities — a credit-focused residential mortgage REIT and a CLO closed-end fund. This role reports to the Controller and offers a collaborative environment with exposure to senior executives, portfolio management, and regulatory reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain financial reporting models and analytics, developing key reports for management and tax compliance.
- Assist in preparing management reports for fully consolidated subsidiaries and significant equity stakes.
- Reconcile administrator data with internal portfolio management systems to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate across departments including portfolio management, risk, trade settlement, tax, and system development.
- Support quarterly and annual regulatory reporting, including 10-Q/K filings, earnings releases, board packages, and market data reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required); CPA preferred.
- 5-10 years of public accounting or fund accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of complex legal structures and accounting consolidation issues is a plus.
- Knowledge of REITs, loan originations, whole loans, structured products, and derivatives is highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills (familiarity with SQL or programming a plus).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
