We are seeking a Vice President of Controllership – Technical Accounting to play a key role in our Accounting Policy team. This position will provide technical accounting guidance, policy development, and regulatory compliance oversight across the organization. The role requires deep expertise in US GAAP, SEC reporting, and regulatory frameworks to support complex transactions, financial reporting, and policy implementation.
The VP will work closely with senior leadership, including the SVP of Accounting Policy, Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), and leaders across Finance, FP&A, Risk, Compliance, and Treasury.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Accounting Leadership: Provide guidance on business transactions, including financing, acquisitions, dispositions, and deal structuring to ensure compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Policy Development & Compliance: Maintain consistency across accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Stay ahead of external accounting and regulatory changes, evaluating their impact on the company.
- New Accounting Standards Implementation: Lead the adoption of new accounting rules, working with industry groups, regulators, and external auditors.
- Financial Reporting Oversight: Assist in the review of quarterly and annual SEC filings, including financial statement disclosures and supplementary reports.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with finance and operational accounting teams to assess contract amendments, client transactions, and other operational impacts on financial reporting.
- Special Projects & Initiatives: Support strategic initiatives and other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 10 years of combined public accounting and corporate technical accounting experience.
- Minimum 5 years in public accounting with significant experience in accounting policy and technical accounting advisory.
- CPA certification required.
- Prior experience in financial services (credit card industry experience is a plus).
- Strong ability to research and analyze GAAP, SEC, and regulatory guidance to form clear technical accounting positions.
- Proven track record of influencing senior leadership and driving compliance initiatives.
- Experience in a technical accounting role within financial services or a Senior Manager role in a large public accounting firm focused on financial services.
- Ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements while maintaining compliance.
- Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly articulate and effective communicator (both written and verbal) with strong presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
