Title: Data Infrastructure & Security Specialist (Contract)
Report To: Director of IT
Salary: Based on Experience
Work Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days ONSITE-NASHVILLE, 2 days remote.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Infrastructure & Security Specialist for a critical contract project focused on the infrastructure and security aspects of our Client's business data. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in a key data initiative, working alongside their business-focused data team.
This project requires expertise in data classification, data organization, and data cleanup, with a strong understanding of on-premise Microsoft SQL Server and preferably Microsoft Azure SQL. Experience with other database technologies is also highly valued. We are open to candidates with a strong cybersecurity background who have demonstrable experience in data classification projects.
This is a strict contract, project-based role anticipated to begin in early summer. Due to the specialized nature of this role, we are conducting a thorough search to find the right individual. While local candidates are preferred, remote candidates within the United States will be considered. This role will also have some alignment with our Client's upcoming Microsoft Office 365 E5 license upgrade project anticipated for June, particularly concerning data security and compliance aspects.
Responsibilities:
- Data Classification & Security Implementation:
- Lead and execute the infrastructure and security components of data classification projects.
- Define and implement data classification standards and processes from an infrastructure and security perspective.
- Identify and categorize data assets based on sensitivity, regulatory requirements, and security protocols.
- Implement technical controls and security measures within Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Azure SQL, and other database environments based on data classification levels.
- Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to ensure alignment with overall security policies and best practices.
Data Organization & Infrastructure Management:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of data organization strategies within our database infrastructure, including Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Azure SQL.
- Ensure data is structured and stored efficiently and securely.
- Advise on best practices for database design, performance, and security.
- Potentially assist with data migration and integration tasks, ensuring data integrity and security throughout the process.
Data Cleanup & Remediation (Infrastructure & Security Focus):
- Participate in data cleanup initiatives, focusing on the infrastructure and security implications of data quality issues.
- Develop and implement secure data cleansing scripts and procedures within Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Azure SQL, and other relevant databases.
- Ensure data cleanup processes adhere to security and compliance requirements.
Collaboration & Technical Expertise:
- Work closely with the business-focused data team, cybersecurity professionals, and IT infrastructure teams.
- Provide technical expertise on database infrastructure, security best practices, and data classification methodologies.
- Contribute to the documentation of data classification schemes, data organization standards, and security configurations.
Alignment with Office 365 E5 Upgrade:
- Understand the security and compliance features of Microsoft Office 365 E5 and how they relate to data classification and protection within our database environment.
- Contribute to ensuring our data infrastructure and classification efforts align with the capabilities of the E5 license.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in data classification projects, with a strong understanding of the infrastructure and security aspects.
- Extensive experience with on-premise Microsoft SQL Server administration and security.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL Database administration and security is highly preferred.
- Experience with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) is a plus.
- Solid understanding of database security principles, best practices, and common vulnerabilities.
- Familiarity with data organization principles and database design.
- Experience with data cleanup methodologies and tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a security-first mindset.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage project tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in cybersecurity with experience in data classification projects.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft certifications, security certifications).
- Experience with data governance frameworks and tools.
- Familiarity with data loss prevention (DLP) strategies and tools.
- Understanding of relevant data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
