Monday through Friday and some Saturdays,7:00am to 5:00pm. Start and stop times will vary based on the job.

POSITION SUMMARY
Lay pipes for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Perform any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches by hand while using a transit or pipe laser, inspect pipe for defects, position pipe, and seal joints.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
Learn and follow safety regulations.
Communicate and understand the English language.
Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
Setup or use instruments such as smart levels, lasers, grade rods, or transit levels.
Train or supervise others in laying pipe.
Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement with hand tools or with the assistance of heavy equipment.
Cut pipes to required lengths.
Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, glue or soap.
Install or repair sanitary or stormwater sewer structures or pipe systems.
Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools.
Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
Pour & finish concrete to create the manhole base, or install prefabricated manhole bases, sections, cones, rings, and lids to the required elevations.
Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
Operate walk-behind trench compaction equipment, such as plate compactors, rollers, or jumping jacks.
