Elizabeth Layton Center (ELC) is looking for a Peer Support Specialist for our Mobile Crisis Team. This is a full-time Monday - Friday position in Ottawa, KS. EOE
ELC is a CCBHC (Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic) and Community Mental Health Center serving the citizens of Franklin and Miami counties in Kansas.

SUMMARY:
The candidate will provide Peer Support (PS) services as part of Elizabeth Layton Center’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Mobile Crisis Response team. Peer Support services are person-centered with a rehabilitation and recovery focus, designed to promote skills for coping with and managing psychiatric symptoms, utilizing natural supports, and enhancing community living skills during and following crisis events. Activities must support the identified goals and objectives outlined in the consumer’s individualized treatment plan.
Peer Support is a face-to-face service provided individually or in a group setting. The majority of contacts will occur in community settings where individuals live, work, attend school, and socialize. The Peer Support Specialist will respond in the field as part of a multidisciplinary mobile crisis team to provide emotional support, share lived experience, and promote recovery-oriented problem solving. This position reports directly to the Mobile Crisis Program Supervisor.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond to community-based crisis calls as part of a Mobile Crisis Team
- Provide emotional support and de-escalation using trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches
- Share lived experience to offer hope, normalize help-seeking behavior, and reduce stigma
- Help individuals develop a support network and build relationships with others who have had similar experiences
- Support individuals in making independent choices and taking an active role in their care
- Assist individuals in recognizing and responding to crisis triggers and early warning signs
- Collaborate with other ELC staff, including clinicians and case managers, in developing and implementing care plans
- Provide timely and accurate documentation of all contacts and interventions
- Attend all required training, meetings, and supervision
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while serving as a recovery role model
- Transport clients as needed in accordance with agency policy
- Comply with all ELC policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Certification in the State of Kansas to provide Peer Support services (including completion of a state-approved training program, criminal background check, and abuse/neglect registry clearance)
- Must self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services
- At least one year of experience working with individuals with mental illness preferred
- Must complete additional mobile crisis-specific training as required by KDADS and ELC
